One minute re-shoot

One minute re-shoot

Here is our one minute re-shoot of the film 'misery'

Overall i think that our re-shoot of Misery went well, however, if I was to film it again I would do a few things slightly differently. If I was to re-do this opening sequence I would make the cuts cleaner in order to make it slightly easier for the audience to watch, as well as to make it more realistic. I would also pay more attention to the lighting within the set by creating more natural shadows like the ones in the original clip, I would do this by using more superficial lighting. I also think that I would pay further attention to small details within the setting, for example the picture in the back ground of the original,  or even the lamp one the desk. I think that myself and my group have done some things well when re-shooting the opening to Misery, we were able to match the shot types relatively well  whilst also adding small details similarly to within the clip such as shallow depth of field at the very beginning. This allows the audience to focus on one object or thing specifically, and therefore understand the significance that this object may have later on within the film.

Target audience interview

Target audience interview

Here is a 20 year old female from my target audience telling me what they think about thrillers.
From this interview I have been able to understand the type of thriller films enjoyed by members of my target audience.

Animatic:

Animatic:

Here is the animatic that myself and my group has created in order to allow us to further understand the basics to the short thriller opening that we will be creating. An animatic is a preliminary version of a film produced by adding together the sections of a storyboard, and adding a soundtrack relevant to the actual film or clip that is being made. If I was to remake this animatic I would add further detail, as well as more shots to give myself and my group further understanding of what is going on. Essentially an Animatic is designed to the directors and producers a starting point previous to filming meaning everyone within the crew understands what happens when. Overall this means that the end product will be more successful as it is more planned and thought out.

preliminary task:

This is the video that myself and my group filmed in order to practice camera techniques, angles as well as experiment with sound. There are a few things that I would change if I was to re shoot this clip. Firstly I would ensure backing noise to be at a minimum. whilst filming this short clip classes were going on. This made volume in the background very loud taking the audiences focus away from the situation taking place. I would also add a variety of non diegetic sound to the video, for example slow, somber music to represent the emotions of the character, or even sound effects. I would also ensure that I use a larger variety of camera angles. For example as he walks into the class room, I would use a high angle or birds eye shot. This would emphasis to the audience the insignificance of this character, as well as his sadness and depression as a result to the bullying he is experiencing. I would also use a low angle or worms eye shot in order to show the bully. This would enable the audience to understand the power that these people hold and the dominance that they hold over the boy and his life.

Analysis of thriller opening:

Analysis of inception: thriller opening

Throughout this very short opening see from the film 'Inception' the director uses a variety of camera angles and also techniques in order to create enigmas for the audience as well as to hihlight the emotions that are being experianced by the chararcters in shot.

The director uses camera angles and movements within inception in order to emphasise the fear of the characters and also the danger of what is about to happen later on in the scene. Firstly an extreme close up of the sea water is used, this straight away sets the locaion of the film, or scene and allows the audience to have a better undertanding. At this point a slight sense of unsurity is also created as the audience begins to worry about what might happen or what has already happened as the dangers of the sea become apparent. Another extreme close up is then used of the characters face as he lifts it out or away from the water, this not only emphasises the panic and fear that is being experianced by the character, but also further creates enigmas as to what is happening and why it is happening from the audience. While we are able to see the man, water is then splashed onto the camera lense, this causing a slight unfocus allows the audience to see the situation from the characters perspective as the idea of water splashing or hittig his face is created, once again highlighting the fear and panic being experianced by the character himself. The director then uses a medium shot of the children playing, as well as the slight use of shallow debth of field. This once again recreates what can be seen from the character laying down as it is both slightly blurred and also from a low angle. This results in a sense of confusion being experianced by the audience as they are unsure of whats happening as well as enable us to further understand the panic experianced by the character as we see what he is able to see.

The director also uses sound throughout the short opening scene to create a similar effect on the audience. Throughout the non diegetic sound of slow and sombre music is used causing the audience to feel uneasy as well as begin to worry or feel the emotions experianced by the main character. It is extremely slow meaning the audience is able to experiance the saddness of the character shown within the scene. The director also uses diegetic sound in order to set the scene and cause a contrast between what is happening to the man and what is going on around him. The diegetic sound of childrens laughing is heard in the background. This once again casues a sense of unsurity as happiness is contrasted with the negitivity and desperation shown within the short clip meaning the audience feels uneasy and extremely confused as to how to feel. Diegetic sound of waves is also used, this adds to the realism of the opening scene as the location is set. It also results in a sense of fear and panic experianced by the audience as we become aware of the common dangers that are accosiated with water and the sea in particular. Once again this also causes many enigmas.

Mis En Scene is also used by the director. Overal the lighting within the scene is natural, this adds to the realism of the situation and allows the audience to believe that the characters are on the beach in what is supposodly a hot country. There is however, some shadowing over the mans face as he is laying in the water, this sets the tone of the film causing the audience to feel sad as well as understand the depression or saddness that the man himself is experiancing. The makeup used within the scene also appears quit natural, and therefore once again adding to the realism of the scene. The children however, are wearing bright clothing, similarly to the use of laughing this contrasts the mood of the short clip resulting in the audience feeling extremely confused and unsure of what is about to happen.

Overall within the short clip the director uses a variety of techniques in order to create enigmas and cause the audience to feel unsure or uneasy about the situation that is taking place.

filming location for thriller opeing

Scene shooting environment:Here is the location that myself and my group might be using when filming our 2 minute thriller opening scene. Within our short clip it is only neccesary to film in one place.  In order to film our short opening we must have a road that joins onto another one. This is so that a car is able to speed up and frighten our main character. It is also neccesary for natural lighting to be limited in order to add to the scary side of whats happening, resulting in enigmas from the audience as they are unsure of what the young teenage girl is doing out alone.
So that we are able to film our short clip we need to have a number of things in our location:
. trees
. adjoining roads
. dark/getting dark lighting
Displaying image6.JPG. few street lights to create shadows

This is where the thriller opening would begin, as we see
the teenage girl beneath the trees. There are a few steet
lights within this area, resulting in mysterious
shadows and creating tension and unsurity amongst the
audience.

This is anpther image from our location. As you can see
there is an adjoining road to the pathway where the teenager
will be walking. This is where the car that scares her will come
from before it scares the teenager.

Here is the surrounding area to what will be in shot, however, when filming it is unlikely any cars will be around.

Here are some imags from our second potential filming loactaion. As a groupwe have decided that this place is more suitable as a result to the eerie and thriller atmospthere that is created whilst there. There are also many small details within this setting that benefit our short clip massively. For example, in this setting the floor is dirt,(dirt track) this should add to the feeling of the girl being quit deserted and surrounded by nothing other than houses and trees, emphasising the idea that the character is trying to escape. There are also many old fashioned street lamps within this setting, not only do these add to the eerie atmosphere that we want, but also provide us with some more natural lighting that within setting one.

Overall i think that the atmosphere created within location two, is much more suitable for a thriller opening. The road layout with the t-junction is also perfect for when the car comes rushing around the corner. Lighting is also much better in this as a result to more street lights around where we are planning to shoot, in comparison to the lighting within the first option.
